On Writing 4 Books At Once

In retrospect, working on multiple projects at once is much easier than I anticipated.

In retrospect, working on multiple projects at once is much easier than I anticipated.

Many people see the cover of Apparent Power and ask what awards it has. Back in my early writing days, I found a blogger by the name of Timothy Pike who formed a business around coaching authors on his blog What Inspires Your Writing. In February 2017, Tim announced his very first 10k word challenge on his site ChapterBuzz which has been compared to WattPad only more intimate with focused feedback. Much like the writing community’s National Novel Writing Month, Tim’s vision would give aspiring authors a smaller goal and some cool incentives (like challenge awards) to participate and bring their stories to life.

At the time, Apparent Power was half finished and I had written myself into a wall. Feeding on my competitive nature, I decided to go all in and bring a handful of friends with me. These people served as my beta readers and formed much of what the world knows of Valerie today.

Apparent Power won the March 2017 Most Buzz award for being the most read book during the 10k challenge. The next year, Shifting Power won the same award.

This year, though I am not writing another DiaZem book, I am working on 3 others while Shifting Power is away with the editor. The Hunt for Bheanoira is a fantasy hero’s quest, Brightest Firefly which is a collection of all my short stories, and of course Memoirs of a Dacia.

The fact that my memoir and the collection are fairly easy to input an anecdote or two in a sitting, then approaching the fantasy is like a sweet desert I saved for later. Soon Shifting Power will be back and ready for revisions, then I might be singing a different story.

Until then, all these stories, except Shifting Power, are currently free to the public as I work them into publishable works. Please feel free to leave feedback (Read: PLEASE leave feedback) and tell me what you think!!

  1. Awesome, Dacia! You’ve done amazingly! I can barely keep a novel and a short story on the go. I’m glad I knew of you back when you started on Chapterbuzz. You are crushing it!
