Thanks to breakthroughs in modern technology, any Jo-Schmo can publish a book. So that is what I did.
A long, long time ago (in 2015), I began writing a book. I figured out the formula to all the popular book-to-movies at the time, and I had an original idea. I would make a mom the hero because I could not think of a single heroine in recent fiction that was. I was absolutely positive that I was not alone in wanting an adult, high-action dystopian novel with a female lead, someone I could relate to now, not ten years ago.
I got started and it was rough, but it was coming along. Then I got stuck. I took a step back from my work-in-progress and decided maybe I needed a different point of view. This was when Sasha Bowman was born– literarily.
I began writing REACTANCE as a journal from the point of view of an 18 year-old girl who was simply a victim of the circumstances within the world of Apparent Power. The awakening of a dormant gene which causes human bodies to absorb the electricity around them affected Sasha and her mother, but not her father. Since only ¼ of the world’s population held this gene, this situation was common within my fiction world.
Sasha, the main character of REACTANCE, developed a hatred for Valerie Russell, the main character of APPARENT POWER, though the two never meet in either story. This animosity will come into play later in the storyline of the trilogy: heavily in books two and three.
After Apparent Power was released for presale, I knew I needed to offer my readers something to make up for the six month wait. So I revisited the story I started years before. I had only made it to 800 words into Sasha’s story at the time. In two weeks I wrote, polished, and submitted to my editor 19,000 words of the complete journal of Sasha Bowman. The novella is 100% teaser and NO spoilers. There are even a couple of cross over characters. Some take on aliases like Jeff Bridges and John Wayne. Others are named. It’s a fun little piece of the big DiaZem puzzle and I am excited to hear the theories, read the reviews, and ultimately create more buzz about Apparent Power.
Thank you all so much for hanging out with me here on my blog, following me on Twitter, and interacting with me on Facebook. Reactance is now available on Kindle (FREE for Kindle Unlimited) and paperback very soon (hopefully by the end of the day).
Have a great weekend everyone!
