I am Dacia M Arnold and this is APPARENT NEWS—(an attempted) weekly newsletter for fans of my work.

What is Dacia Reading?

This is my last week of American Lit. I’ll be taking a 5 week break from school while I get acclimated to my new job (if I get it). Last week I did a paper on the importance of ethnic literature throughout American history. I came to a very unnerving realization of the deep rooted and ever presence of prejudice in this country.

Leisurely, I have finished Ghoul by Brian Keene, Cheat Code by Aften Brooks Szmanski, and the ARC of Behind the Door by Mary Sangiovanni. I plan to finish the ARC for Meradeth Houston’s Someone Else’s Soul this week.

My TBR list is ever growing, but I have a goal of reading 24 books this year. I’m not a speed reader so 2 books a month I think is reasonable of a working mama.

What is Dacia Writing?

As mentioned above, I am taking a short break from many things.

I wrote, edited and pitched a 19,000-word novella in 2 weeks. REACTANCE is now on submission at Immortal Works Press for audiobook consideration.

I will likely be taking a hiatus from regular blog posting as well. You can look forward to book reviews of everything I have recently finished reading, an exclusive interview with up and coming author, Katrena Turner, and info on the cover reveal and release of REACTANCE.

I will continue to write articles for the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers blog monthly.

I still have 4 of 5 short stories out on submission to various publications.

“I Should Not” was accepted by Gypsum Sounds Tales for inclusion in their Culp Anthology: The Passing of Time. This is my first ever short story to sell to a publisher. AND they are out of Australia, so now I can say I’m an internationally printed author. Hubba-hubba.

When I get settled into an easier schedule, editing of Shifting Power will be in full swing. I might pen a few more short stories in this time, but finishing my second book with be top priority.

THIS WILL STAY ON MY NEWSLETTER FOR A WHILE…. A mentor and friend, Brian Keene, was badly burned in a brush fire accident. He is a full-time novelist, freelance writer, father, and philanthropist. Just last month, he raised over $20k for a child with cancer, a mother and veteran with terminal cancer, and a little boy suffering from horrifying burns. As many freelance writers, Brian has no health insurance and is also out of commission with burns to his face, and second and third degree burns to his left arm. A GoFundMe has been started to help him and his family with medical bills and lost commissions.
