Apparent News July 20, 2018

I am Dacia M Arnold and this is APPARENT NEWS– a weekly newsletter for fans of my work.

July 20th, 2018

Hello everyone!!! I know i missed last week’s newsletter. I am trying to get better at being consistent, so I appreciate everyone hanging in there with me. You folks are amazing.

First of all: WE HAVE MERCH!!! Check out my mom’s work to support my novella Reactance HERE!!!

I took a break from reading, but I finally posted reviews for Cheat Code and Behind the Door. I recommend both books. Check out the reviews and consider adding them to your reading list.

I have a few more novels on my shelf to read, including The Point by John Dixon and Saved By Holli Anderson.

I took a much needed break from school as I transition back into the work force. It is very much for my mental health that I return to work. I think the longest I ever lasted without a job was ten months after I got out of the Army. This is the second longest at nine months. Otherwise I have had a full time job my entire adult life.

I will resume school once I get myself and the kiddos online with the new routine. With school starting soon and my oldest in kinder this year (WHAT?!?!) I am hoping this is easy for everyone.

A blog post went up Wednesday on the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers blog about the inclusion of females in contemporary military fiction. This is a similar post to what I shared on Stephen Kozeniewski’s blog a few months ago, just a bit less abrasive.

I am also officially a monthly contributor for the RMFW blog and will be posting every third Wednesday for the foreseeable future. YAY!

My short story “I Should Not” was sold to Gypsum Sounds Tales in Australia for their digital anthology Colp: The Passage of Time. I will let everyone know when this is available.

My short zombie story, “Dirty Bombs” was short listed by SNAFU for their anthology Resurrection. This just means after their initial cut, they have not thrown it in the trash yet.

I still have 3 short stories out on submission to various publications. I should start hearing back about these in the coming weeks.

In a hurried twist of events… I am SELF PUBLISHING my novella Reactance. This will appear in ebook, paperback and audiobook (pending contract). It will be available for pre-order on August 11th and be released on September 11th. This is a huge step for me. I feel like I am going rogue, but let me assure you, my publisher is 100% on board and supportive of this project. Definitely expect to read about my experience in a blog post.

Reactance By Dacia M Arnold

Given a gift she never wanted, SASHA BOWMAN fights to find a place in post-apocalyptic Denver.

When a dormant gene awakens in a quarter of the world’s population, conductors of electricity are at the mercy of the DiaZem who rule over them. After her father is killed in a thwarted plan to eradicate the population without the conductor gene, Sasha channels her bitterness toward the woman she believes is responsible: The Queen DiaZem. Keeping a journal to share with the world what really transpired, Sasha rallies the community to React against the Apparent Power.

On that note, I am running a contest from now until the cover reveal of Reactance on August 11th. The contest is easy and can be played on all social media platforms.

Facebook: Tell me or share a picture of what you fight for everyday. Include #apparentpower in your post. BE SURE THE POST IS PUBLIC or else I can’t see it.

Instagram: Show me a picture  (or representation) of what keeps you fighting everyday. Kids? Family? Justice? Equality? and include #apparentpower in your post. BE SURE THE POST IS PUBLIC or else I can’t see it.

Twitter: Tell me, show me, or even use a gif to represent what you fight for on a daily basis. What would you walk 100 miles for? What makes you want to rip a hole through a wall like Winona Ryder on Stranger Things? Be sure to use #apparentpower BE SURE THE POST IS PUBLIC or else I can’t see it.

On August 11th I will draw a random winner to receive a FREE Apparent Power coffee mug like the one here:

PRE ORDERS ARE ON FIRE!!!! You can order from Kindle, iBooks, Barnes and Noble, the whole 9!! (Click HERE for a full list!) These are all eBooks for now. My fingers are crossed that by the time this reaches your inbox on Friday morning, the paperback will be available for pre order as well.

Note: Within HOURS of going on pre order Apparent Power was in the top 1% of books on Amazon and over the month has maintained between the top 1%-10%. Continue to share it with your friends!! THAT IS NUTS!

Book 2 will begin its first hard edit in August with a target submission date of Mid September to my publisher. There is so much work to do with it. I wrote and developed Apparent Power over two years. I finished the first draft of Shifting Power in SEVEN MONTHS!!! It’s rough but I am confident it will be even better than the first. Then on to the third book in the series.

THIS WILL STAY ON MY NEWSLETTER FOR A WHILE…. A mentor and friend, Brian Keene, was badly burned in a brush fire accident. He is a full time novelist, freelance writer, father, and philanthropist. Just last month, he raised over $20k for a child with cancer, a mother and veteran with terminal cancer, and a little boy suffering from horrifying burns. As many freelance writers, Brian has no health insurance and is also out of commission with burns to his face, and second and third degree burns to his left arm. A GoFundMe has been started to help him and his family with medical bills and lost commissions.

As always, I appreciate your support. CHEERS!!!

PATREON: Where I post exclusive behind the scenes content for my DiaZem Trilogy, and you have the opportunity to have your name appear in the Acknowledgement Section of any book that goes to print during your Patronage.

TWITTER: I love connecting on Twitter and am very active! Give me a follow and I’ll return the favor. <3

FACEBOOK: I post fun things daily and keep everyone abreast of my writing.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
